Harry Kane is the best no.9 in the Premier League, according to Lothar Matthaus, who knows what he is talking about when it comes to great strikers.
The former Germany midfielder has played with and against some of the best in the game, including Marco van Basten, Rudi Voller and Jurgen Klinsmann.
Matthaus, a Ballon d’Or winner in 1990, a year he also won the World Cup, was talking about the importance of strikers in title winning teams and believes Kane is better than Sergio Aguero at Man City and Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata right now.
The Tottenham striker has scored 86 times in 126 Premier League games and has won the Golden Boot in the last two seasons.
“Kane guarantees you goals and he has scored so many,” he wrote in his Four Four Two column.
“He works for the team, he is strong and his body language is amazing. You can see just how much he wants to score. He’s crazy about it.
“He is so focused on the ball when it comes to him. I like it when a player has that look – he doesn’t want to let that chance go.”
Matthaus went on to explain that he believes Kane can be the new face of English football and suggested Three Lions fans should be happy to have a striker in the same league as Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker.
However, the 24-year-old is still not quite the best in Europe. That title goes to Robert Lewandowski – “the most complete no.9 in the world right now,” he explained.
