Arsenal should avoid signing Julian Draxler because of his ‘weakness in character’, according to Germany legend Lothar Matthaus.
The Gunners are said to be one of the clubs interested in signing the Wolfsburg midfielder, who is also a target for the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.
The chasing pack have been given hope by indications from Germany that the 23-year-old has had enough at Wolfsburg and wants to leave as early as next month.
But Arsenal have been warned about doing a deal for Draxler by his compatriot Matthaus.
He told Sport Bild: “I would like to say that as a big club I would not want Draxler at the moment.
“Partly because of his weakness in character and, on the other hand, since he is a talent but has not yet proved it permanently at a high level.
“Also I do not believe that the sale of Julian Draxler will bring Wolfsburg more than [what they paid for him] despite his long-term contract.
“His market value has suffered severely in recent years.”
